Up a Tree

You guessed it, I've gone stark raving mad. Make that crazy. But then it is Crazy Saturday after all.

In fact, my first Crazy Saturday excursion took me up a tree, literally. My first mission: to climb the tallest tree on Corstorphine Hill and carve my initials. So off I went...

It's not exactly the biggest of hills, so a 20 minute walk got me to the top and the first step turned out to be a little unexpected. See, the problem with tall trees is you can't climb them! Just a branchless trunk shooting up to the sky. So I had to settle for something a little less spectacular.

Soon I realised that I have undergone some physiological changes since I was 11 years old - climbing a big tree freaks me out! Okay, I've got more physical strength to pull me up with feet dangling in the air, but let's say I'm a little more cautious.

I made it up to about 7 or 8 metres and ran out of branches. Had a cyclist doing circles around my tree without realising I was up there. Actually I was more worried about the dogs blowing my cover, but their distant barks never came close enough.

Well, I've added photographic proof of my key-carved name, I've signed off with a big tick and now I brace for the next adventure. I've got some meanies up my sleeve - I'll be back...

What on Mars is Crazy Saturday?

Well, as the name implies, there's something crazy going on each Crazy Saturday!

Come on, do you think I'm trying to hide stuff between the lines there?

Crazy Saturday was birthed in 2005 just after I watched Last Holiday with Queen Latifah (I won't tell you the movie plot), and I concluded that life could be a whole lot more adventurous if we took a few crazy risks. Not dangerous risks, just crazy ones. And so I dreamed up this idea that once a month I would do something crazy, not necessarily useful, but something out of the box that took a fresh angle on life away from the daily hum-drum.

Well, 2005 became 2006 and some time one August day, sitting around a languid canteen table with workmates, I decided to relaunch my dream.

So here it is: once a month, at least, I do something crazy on a Saturday and I record my adventures on this blog and hopefully post a photo to add colour to the story. Join me on my journey...
